Larry, thanks for, quite literally, "putting your money where your mouth is" in supporting the mission of the BGC.
For anyone interested, we've had at least 60 different members contribute to the site -- many of those have done so more than once. By far, the largest single contribution has come from a very generous member in the State of Kansas. Nevertheless, we're extremely appreciative of the kind efforts, large or small, of all those who've found the BGC worthwhile enough to put a shoulder to, to whatever extent they're able, and for the patronage of those whose circumstances make a financial contribution impossible. The latter are no less welcome or esteemed here.
For the economists out there, the BGC is something like public television, inasmuch as it is subject to the so-called "
free-rider problem". We have over 2200 active members, 500 of which will typically access the site within any given 48-hour period. If even ten percent of our regular viewers are enthusiastic enough to contribute a single dollar for use of the service provided, we're probably consistent with industry standards.

Again, many thanks to those of you who've seen fit to assist us financially in maintaining the site. Your patronage is humbly appreciated -- not only by "management", but by all who visit and enjoy the BeatGear Cavern.

Having just made a donation, I will encourage the rest of you to follow suit--especially those of you who love to debate away in the 'grotty.Ya know bandwidth ain't free.

fatcat, you've been steady, man, and we greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness (as well as that of your many unnamed compatriots who've tossed something into the hat) -- especially with the annual server bill coming due this month!

Just sent some bucks. The donate button produced a very difficult to read page. Do you need the transaction ID or is it a done deal?
Fri Oct 07, 2011 7:38 am
Thanks so much for your incredible generosity Bob - you are truly a generous man to share even while you're going through this rough patch. One day I look forward to breaking bread with you my friend.

Fixed the font size issue - the MOD for the donation overloaded something in the style sheet for the board, so I was going a bit bonkers going through the DOM inspector trying to find where it changed the font size (it was actually hardcoded into one of the HTML files, which violates the way things are supposed to be done in phpBB).

What Mike said -- thanks very much, Bob!

Nice catchphrase, Gary - and thank you!

To answer publicly the question you asked privately: For those who don't use credit cards/PayPal, we do accept contributions the old-fashioned way (check via the mail) at the address below:

Well, that took me long enough ! Sorry for the delay, Mark - I don't even understand why I didn't do that ages ago.
Let me add my sincere thanks, and a heartfelt "bravo" to Mark, Mike and the entire Beat Gear community. Man, this site is right up my alley.
This place makes an already fun retirement even more enjoyable; BGC is always one of the first sites I vist each morning. Love it !!

I would like to encourage everyone to donate to keep this great site running. I've decided to donate every quarter ( 4 times a year, not 25 cents). It's a very small price to pay for all the priceless friendships I've made over the years through this site. Thanks Mark & Mike for making this happen.
Peace my friends,
Gary

You guys are GREAT, and every contribution (and well-meaning thought behind it) is much appreciated. The annual bill from our service provider is due this coming month, and it's deeply gratifying to know so many folks care enough about our little internet community to assist with all that. Your humble hosts here are very grateful. Thank you so much!

Shout-out to
Mike Shields, "
fatcat" and
Gary Henson for generous donations to the BGC this week. The BGC might have disappeared long ago; however, you folks make it possible for this site to run under its own power - all who enjoy visiting here and draw something from the discussions (me included) owe you a huge debt of gratitude for your kind, cooperative efforts.
Not to slight others who have been so kind & generous in looking after the BGC. Unless someone indicates a preference otherwise, I intend to be more vocal about recognizing those whose financial contributions are responsible for keeping the BGC "on the air."
Thank you, one and all - you guys ROCK!

Mark, maybe it's time to apply for a 501c3 for BGC as an educational organization. Let's see if the IRS will flag the words, "Beatle, Vox, Rickenbacker, or UK Invasion" and pull the application for further scrutiny.
Tue Jun 11, 2013 7:51 am
John - thanks so much for your generous donation! It's a luxury to not worry about the BGC "light bill." As I mentioned in an email, it is quite rewarding to know that a number of folks here enjoy the site enough to assist us in that tangible way.

The friendships I've made here are priceless. Glad to help out.

Mark,
A donation is on the way, just completed the transaction through paypal. I'm ashamed to admit but I hadn't thought about it. I greatly appreciate your efforts to make available this wonderful site. I'll try to think about that more often in the future as I lurk around. Many thanks.

Thank you very much, Tim - we greatly appreciate you being here and contributing to the "community."
And a thankful shout-out to our colleague "jwl325" as well, who had a similar thought today.

Many thanks to LALA, Headshots, fatcat, JackBurch, abbeyrd1, "TO", KRB and Mr. Shoemaker for recent donations to the BGC. My sincere apologies if I've forgotten anyone. Our reserves were invaded to pay a significant server bill in late 2013; your generosity in helping us prepare for the next one is much appreciated. It pleases us to no end that folks enjoy this site enough to contribute in such an above-and-beyond way. Thank you!

I sent a little something last night using PayPal. It was easy enough, however, at the end of the transaction it directed me to copy and forward some transaction number to the contributee .. or something like that. I blew that part of it off as I am not so good when it comes to following instructions. I hope it went through all the same!
