Some vexing administrative issues have made it necessary for me to amend the
BGC Member Agreement to include a requirement that we
all maintain
valid email addresses associated with our accounts. The bottom line is that I must have a reliable way to contact any member here in the event that a legal or other issue arises with respect to compliance with the Member Agreement.
As always, members' email addresses are hidden from the membership at large; and members may still choose whether or not an "email" tab appears as part of the profile available to other members.
More particularly, paragraph B-1 has been amended as follows (the amendment is in bold yellow font):
Quote:
1. All BGC Members assume sole responsibility for the content of their messages posted to the site. No Member shall distribute or otherwise publish to the BGC or to its Members any material that is: libelous; defamatory; obscene; pornographic; abusive; violative of any third party's right to privacy; violative of any copyright, trademark, patent or other intellectual property right of any third party; violative of any applicable local, state, national or international law; or otherwise inappropriate. All Members shall remove such offending material from the BGC immediately upon their discovery of the same and/or notification by the site Administrator. In furtherance thereof, each Member shall maintain a valid email address in his or her account profile, with the understanding that any non-compliant account may be suspended without notice at the discretion of the site Administrator.
Members registering after May 1, 2005 have been required to submit a valid email address (verified before account activation) as a condition of membership. So, this notice is directed primarily to members who joined prior to that date and have either bogus or out-of-date email addresses -- making it difficult (or impossible!) for either me or BGC Tech Support to reach them in the event that becomes necessary.
This amendment will take effect at 12:01 a.m. (EDT) on
May 4, 2006. If anyone has any questions or concerns about this, please do not hesitate to contact me via (my
valid ) email address.
Thanks!
Mark
